Feeling low about our house situation. Can anyone advise?

Last summer, we viewed a house we loved and was pretty much perfect for us. We sold ours in October, put in an offer for the house we wanted and it was accepted.

Since then, nothing has happened. The people buying ours have moved into rented accommodation and we are feeling pressured to do the same.

DH now thinks they will pull out and he wants to put an offer in on another house which is lovely but on practical grounds isn’t quite right.

Has anybody experienced similar?

What's the hold up? What does your solicitor say?

What’s their reason for not progressing with the sale? Are they still looking for an onward purchase?

Summersdreaming · 30/03/2022 08:29

Why has nothing happened, guessing your vendor has not found a property to buy? You only have two choices really, wait and rent, or look for another house. It is shit, I'm sorry.

They haven’t found anywhere yet. It’s just it can’t really drag on much longer.

Sorry OP - this has dragged on for too long. Your buyer is already in rented accommodation so probably is looking at other houses now. You should do the same if you don't want to lose/mess around your buyer.

You need to put a date on the house you offered on.
The property system in England is utterly ridiculous. A date forms part of the offer in Scotland so there’s none of this nonsense

In some ways it would be a relief if he did. We had several offers on our house at full (and over) asking price.

If they’ve not found anywhere they could be looking for months yet and then you need to factor in 3/4 months for their conveyancing.

Sorry OP, this is not going to help but we were in exactly the same situation. We had an offer accepted, waited months, sold our house and moved into rented, and then the vendor withdrew the house from the market. Apparently they eventually found something but the survey was bad.

So now back to square one, been in rented for 6 months, hardly anything on the market and prices have gone up at least 10%.

I would be wary of assuming your house will sell as easily as it did in October. Sold mine in December, lots of offers, quick sale etc. then buyer pulled out and haven’t had much interest since. Suspect the energy prices etc having an impact here. Depends of the type of property tho.

Glitterheart · 30/03/2022 20:23

I’ve been in this situation OP it really sucks. We were first time buyers and waited over 6 months only for the sellers to inform us that the market had increased since our original offer and asked for an additional £30k! Needless to say we pulled out and found an equally lovely house. If you find something else you like I would go for it as they could be messing you around indefinitely!

Stay on the ladder and avoid moving into rented. Will the vendor move into rented?

Turquoisenavygreen · 31/03/2022 07:47

No definitely not unfortunately

On the other side of the situation, accepted buyer's offer last year. Onward purchase failed through due to survey, not much came on the market since, viewed a handful in the space of 5 months, and outbid in all our attempts. The market has come down here, prices arent as crazy and property start ti take a bit longer to shift, but there just isnt anything that match what we want
