Why has the pipe under my sink suddenly split?

Puddle of water on the floor this morning. The horizontal "drain" pipe from the trap under my bathroom sink has a crack along the underside of it. How can this happen?
I want to avoid it happening to my other pipes too! It is the sink that is used the most and whilst there was some gunk in the trap when I pulled it apart this morning, there was no sign of it not draining as normal.
And how do I go about replacing it if it's true one which goes into the wall?

Go to the plumbers supply shop and ask them.
Possibly a poor quality pipe.
