Moving to Portishead from Bristol? What's it really like?

Hello we have lived in Bristol for years and I love it here. My husband wants us to consider moving to Portishead for the secondary schools. Has anyone made this move and if so how have you found it and any tips? I think I would miss living in a city and the mix of people but am trying to be open minded! My husband wld have to commute into Bristol but I might be able to stay local. Is it a nice place to live and bring up kids and are people generally fairly friendly?

Portishead is a lovely place to live. I lived there a few years ago and would move back for sure! The schools are very good! Lots of parks, a decent amount of shops and great for families!

Portishead is a nice place but I would check out the commute to Bristol. Traffic queuing up to J19 starts around 7ish and traffic leaving the motorway in the evening rush hour is also bad. This was the pre covid days though so it might have improved now that they have restructured J19 and widened the road into Portishead.
