Building Plot

Has anyone got any experience of building their own house ..we have a small three bedroom investment home we could live in after selling our actual home. My husband works as a builder within a family business so they could carry out the actual build. I am just trying to imagine how disruptive it could be with two teenagers who have been used to having more space…maybe I am beginning to talk myself out of it…?

We did, with two teenagers,a puppy and 3 cats. We moved into a touring caravan on the site as we sold our old house to fund the self build. We were in that caravan for 9 long months, although the teenagers and puppy moved out after 2 nights.
Our house was a prefabricated eco one,so it took less than 8 weeks to be built, tiled, decorated and ready to move in,it was the foundations/ drainage/ services ect which took up most of the time, and I had to manage that.
If I ever had to do it again,I'd chose the same company as I'm very happy with the house, but the planning consultants, architects, council planners and first lot of groundworkers we had were all incompetent and caused us a lot of delays and £0000's in extra costs.
