Which colour plinth outside house?

MarineBlue33 · 25/03/2022 12:07

The plinth that goes around the house is quite high but needs painting.
I understand black is traditional colour but I am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions? Not white as think that shows up dirt/ splashes more.
Our fence and driveway are grey, the brickwork around the house is red. It's a 1930s semi.
The door is about to be painted a sage colour.

Anyone? What colour is your plinth/ would you like it to be?

Is plinth the word you're looking for OP? I can't visualise what you mean. Can you post a pic?

I'd probably go dark grey or some kind of green. But a pic would help.

Do you mean the fascias?

anotherneutralname · 26/03/2022 09:09

Is it a rendered strip about 2 courses of bricks high, at the base of the walls? Given your fence and driveway are grey, how about a dark grey on the render to blend it in?

RitaFires · 26/03/2022 10:36

I would match it to something either grey to match the fence or sage to match the door.

OK sorry late but here is a pic of the driveway, bit of fence and wall. However what is very identifying is the black posts and porch wooden border which is all black.

That is the plinth as @anotherneutralname described it as.

Unusual on a brick house?

Mostly black as yes it help to hide splashes etc. I wouldn't go pale. I don't do grey but given what you've described that would probably go.

Has this been done or changed recently, have you had the damp-proof-course rendered?

MarineBlue33 · 02/04/2022 10:37

We had a new driveway done and so that effected that plinth so a bit of it was rendered again.
So grey or black is the question!

I think black unless the grey you are thinking of is a dark grey?

It’s not good to render the damp course. It can bridge the course. It will also remain damp and is not a good substrate for paint. It will reduce the ability of the course to breathe and in winter will freeze and likely blow. I like black.

Just had mine repainted and it's black, as are all the houses I can see round here. We have a black gate and black rail on top of brick wall, grey/green front door. I'd stick with black unless you went grey to match fence.

MarineBlue33 · 03/04/2022 08:33

Yes thanks all. Will go with black
