Pindu · 25/03/2022 10:35

Hi - Being quoted 10k to fit a kitchen (20 units)............ yes, fitting only of units, appliances and new sockets. Worktop is separate. Plumbing is all in the same place and so are electrics. I think it is waaaaayy too much and wondring of anyone has used anyone they can recommend? Based on the Berkshire/Hampshire/Surry borders.
Thanks in advance.

That sounds like a lot to me. I can't recommend as not in your area but I've just paid £2.5k for someone to remove my units (13 of them), plaster the walls, refit the units, appliances and new worktop, sink and hood.

PetalLeaves · 25/03/2022 11:10

Sounds a lot to me. I know it was a while ago but i paid £1.8k for 10 units and integrated units in 2018. This is in the South, but surely things can’t have gone up that much!?

RidingMyBike · 25/03/2022 11:30

We paid about £15k all in for new units (including some with complicated fixtures inside), installation, some electrical work, some building work to replace window and door, make windows aperture bigger and move soil pipe, tiles and decoration in Surrey.

So that does sound like a lot.

remikitchens.com/

This guy fitted our kitchen in SW London a couple of years ago for £2.5k
I know prices have gone up though….

Think he used to do Surrey too

Pindu · 25/03/2022 12:50

Thanks All.
@RidingMyBike - Where were your units from? Can you give me details of your fitter please?

Thanks @WhatAWasteOfOranges

Units from Wickes. Fitter was just a local builder.

bravotango · 25/03/2022 15:05

That's expensive - I had mine (11 units) fitted last month for 1.8k including cutting and fitting the compact laminate worktop.

Cervinia · 25/03/2022 15:16

Extortion. Our BFs have a kitten fitting business and average size kitchen would be 2k fitting. They’re qualified to do all extricate (except new fuse board) and plumbing.

In the north though.

Cervinia · 25/03/2022 15:17

**electrics

SallyLockheart · 25/03/2022 20:36

we paid just over £1k three years ago to fit medium/large kitchen - though no wall cupboards, no worksurface (had granite fitted by separate company) and electrics and plumbing already in place as had knocked kitchen into utility/storage spaces and done big refurb job.

Quotes ranged from £1k to £3k. Fitter did a good job - rushed a couple of minor places - but happy with live those for a couple of grand. Casual observer won't know what I fretted about!

Alexalee · 26/03/2022 06:41

Is that for fitting only? Or including the cupboards? If the first its ridiculous, if the latter then sounds ok

Shouldbeworkingnotreadingtalk · 26/03/2022 06:59

As the wife of a carpenter (cabinet maker) who makes bespoke kitchens, but also fits normal kitchens (Howdens, Wren) I'd say this quoted price is expensive..... unless they are custom making some of the units?

a decent, top end kitchen fitter is going to charge £35 a hour. Your average kitchen as you've described takes 70-80 hours to fit.

We are in the south east (Lewes) which isn't cheap, but even here it's £2,500-£3,000 maximum.

I do all the quotes for him so I'm pretty on the ball with pricing.

@Shouldbeworkingnotreadingtalk Would you mind private messaging me your contact details please I’m after a bespoke kitchen thank you

I'm so sorry, I have no idea how to PM on Mumsnet .... but you're welcome to pm me if you know how to do it. I've searched my app and I just can't see how. (?)

twosticksandanapple · 26/03/2022 08:35

We paid £4k in Surrey but it was a big kitchen and 2 fitters worked really hard for 2 weeks. The finish was excellent.

Nothappyatwork · 26/03/2022 08:37

So the three dots at the bottom of the post by where it says bookmark if you tap on those you’ll get the facility to private message but I’ve sent you one anyway hopefully where are able to read that thank you

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/03/2022 08:39

That quote says either they don't want the job or they think you are made of money. Ridiculous.

PicpoulDeMeNay · 26/03/2022 08:49

I’ve just paid £1800 to have my new kitchen fitted, which included old kitchen being ripped out (but not disposal) new units, new appliances and worktops / breakfast bar, and included moving the dishwasher so a bit of plumbing too. All other appliances / sink in the same place.

This didn’t include moving sockets as the electrician did that; all my appliance sockets are now hidden away in cupboards.

It was one guy, and took him about 7 working days altogether.

whenwillthemadnessend · 26/03/2022 08:54

That's tonnes my whole kitchen was 10k

Units 18 from IKEA
Worktop ordered online and sink taps IKEA
Dishwasher IKEA
Oven range Style John Lewis
Tiles( laid myself) wickes
Electrics and plastering too.
10k inc fitting

Floor on top of that price from carpet right it's a kardean type laminate.

TheTeenageYears · 26/03/2022 09:12

That's like an insurance company who quotes 10k to insure a 1 litre fiesta - if you're mad enough to pay they'll happily take the money. They don't want the job but will gladly do it for a kings ransom.

Pindu · 26/03/2022 18:20

Thanks all. @twosticksandanapple, where abouts in Surrey? Do you have their details still? Thanks

MarieG10 · 27/03/2022 06:27

That's extortion but in reality, this is the outcome of Brexit in part. Trades were previously moaning about being under cut by foreign workers and now that supply has dried up, costs go through the roof.

ukborn · 27/03/2022 08:02

I just had one fitted (smaller than yours) in London for about £2k.
This included ripping out the old one and installing a Quooker.

twosticksandanapple · 27/03/2022 09:04

@Pindu
