Anyone else relocating or done it ✅

Hi!
We are relocating 3.5 hours away to be closer to parents for lots of reasons…. We have lived in our current location for 17 years and have lots of friends built up from uni, work, NCT etc… the thoughts of starting all again scares me. I know we can still see our old friends but i really want to make local friends and become part of the new local community. It takes time to make decent friends. Plus I will be working from home so won’t have the option of work to meet people. I think it might be a bumpy few years. We have two kids 3 and 5 years so hoping that might help. Any tips/stories from others? Thanks 😊

Similar story, but we are 30 ish years older than you. We shall be casting aside all our local dogwalking acquaintances, and a brilliant, very carefully built rolodex of trusted tradespeople to move closer to the handful of people who really matter big time, but we shall lose a vast amount of casual warmth and easy chat. It does bother me but our child is about to embark on a career that's mostly freelance and very mobile, so once the ties that bind are cut, it makes sense to move to be within a 90 minute drive of everyone who matters.

Hopefully, we shall still be capable of a 90 minute drive for 20 years. (It would take us to 86, and we probably won't be doing it in the dark).

I’ve relocated that many times it’s becoming quite old hat the first thing I would say is don’t get too stressed the kids will adapt very well better than you and the children will bring friends to you we relocated to the other side of the world and very quickly and chilled friends became friends we were very lucky people were very hospitable and now I go out of my way if I come across somebody who I know it’s new to the area to help them settle and to pay it forward
