Painting a fence

Not sure I've posted this in the right bit as it's sort of garden decoration issue. We have a small paved yard with brick walls on two sides and a fence. The exposed brick is really nice but the fence looks a bit cheap. I'm toying painting it but can't think what colour would work. We have lots of trees in pots and a few ferns against it. Is there an obvious colour or would it be best just to leave alone?

I've just painted mine Tudor Black - which is a very dark brown. FIL said I was making a rod for my own back and just to leave it. But it looks much better painted and makes the leaves and flowers pop against it.

See I was thinking a dark grey or white. But worried white will get a bit dingy. All the plants are green so I know what you mean re colour popping against a dark background.
