Neighbours trees

One of our neighbours has large conifer trees at the far end of their garden - these trees back on to our fence at the back of the property.

In the nearly two years we’ve been here they’ve not done anything to them to prune them/tidy etc. The trees are now really large and are blocking sunlight to a significant portion of our south facing garden.

Their house doesn’t look directly onto ours so it wouldn’t affect their view if they were to be cut back.

We don’t know these neighbours at all - only to ask them not to have a bonfire a couple of times. Other than asking them to tidy up/prune the trees is there anything we can do?

Do the trees overhang your garden?

Did you not see the trees when you viewed the house?

Maybe they cannot afford to have them cut back or have been unwell, covid has made life very difficult for many people. Have you been able to trim any overhanging branches your side.

I'd definitely start with the very polite version and talk them. Possibly offering to pay. Otherwise you've got the option of going down the council route, but definitely best to avoid that if possible:
