We are moving house soon and we currently have a big under the stairs cupboard for tonnes of coats shoes and bags, our new house doesn't have a big hallway like this just a tiny porch and I don't know what to do with coats bags shoes etc. Any ideas please?

So I use the back if the utilities cupboard with over the door hangers inside.

You could also use shoe rack outside the sitting room or bedrooms

It depends on the layout of the house. We have a slightly larger than usual Victorian end of terrace, two sitting rooms. Currently the coats are piling up in the hallway corridor that runs to the kitchen. An interiors architect has suggested reinstating one of the doors from our hallway to the back sitting room (there is a front one too) and building a run of storage units (or Ikea hacks!) along that wall. That way you could walk through our front door, a few paces down the hall and then turn into the back sitting room where you would immediately have a long cupboard that hides everything. I have never understood why British homes have so little storage compared to German or Scandinavian ones (yes I know our homes are generally older but surely we could have adapted them better by now!)

How big is the porch? I have hooks on 2 walls of mine & a small shoe cupboard

I think once you are in you will see opportunities for hooks, a coat tree, or a coat cupboard

One friend of mine installed a rail (which could fold out) at the front of a deep cupboard and used the back for storage- maybe that’s an option for you?

Got to be honest that a good sized hallway where you can fit storage is necessary and I would be put off a house without it. We have 2 chest of drawers and a small short wardrobe in ours and even then we still have tonnes of shoes and coats piled about.
