Can we do this?

We live 200 miles from where we want to move to and will need new jobs as well.

We don't have a mortgage currently and we have a large deposit.

Is there anything stopping us from buying a house in the new location & getting mortgage based on current jobs? and then move when we have new employment?

If you have moved to a totally new area what did you do about work?

I got a job then rented for a couple of months. Is it an areA you already know? If not then you'd be better renting to get a feel for it first.
Presumably you don't have a property to sell if no mortgage?

We own a property currently, there's no mortgage.

I've been wondering about renting first, but isn't that really competitive as well at the moment?

We did this last year. I got a job in new area, we then moved into rental in the area and put our house on the market. The rental address meant we could then get a school place sorted. Moved 200 miles, DD started school, I started new job. House sold, started looking for house to buy. DH was offered WFH in new location but took early retirement instead.

Unless you have an indemand job that is available everywhere (nursing? Teaching?) I wouldn't have moved without a job in new location.

Yes, it was really competitive getting a rental but we took the best one we could find (viewed 4 one Saturday) - it's a long way from perfect but it's just a short term thing to enable the rest of it to happen. It also means we can get to know the area and we're buying somewhere that needs work doing (rewiring, plumbing stuff) so will live in rental whilst that takes place.
