Bathroom lighting - are spotlights essential?

From what I understand spotlights are pretty standard these days, but our bathroom is on the small side and I'm just not sure it's worth switching from one central light. Any advice on this?

Certainly not essential on the ceiling. Useful either side of, or over the mirror.

No. I have a central bathroom light that's very bright. It's round and fairly flat so doesn't protrude in to the room. My mirror is also illuminated all around (part of the mirror).

Sounds strange,i would have said the opposite if anything. Given the bathroom is the most humid room in the house, to make lots of holes through the plasterboard sounds like something to avoid.
