Do you think tarmac with a nice border would look cheap? If it makes a difference, the drive is @100sqm.

Anyone?

No, I think it'll look fine. We have a block paved driveway and it looks crap because it's full of moss and weeds and it's a bugger to keep on top of. Next door's tarmac driveway looks loads better. If I had the money, I'd change ours to tarmac and put some nice flower boarders in.

Have you checked if you need planning permission or if tarmac is still allowed? I read something about how new surfaces for driveways need to be permeable.

If you can do it, I'm sure it will look nice.

Thanks both. Will need to investigate re planning permission- DH never mentioned anything..

Tarmac is still allowed, if you are extending the drive then planning is needed if the new part is over a certain size, however if your extended drive drains onto flowerbeds or lawn then you don't need planning.

There are permeable drives such as resin or permeable block paving but at the size you are at it is going to cost a fortune. Tarmac is one of the cheapest options.

Have a google of tarmac drives to see lots of examples.

We have similar size in block paving and spend a fortune in time trying to keep it weed free. Tarmac with nice brick border and maybe raised beds will look great and less upkeep

stuntbubbles · 23/03/2022 04:12

Tarmac looks awful, sorry. I’m a fan of gravel driveways.

We're looking at the same, border in a lighter colour, and tarmac. I'm not keen on block because of weeds abs moss, gravel is messy (though we're having a square of gravel as an overflow parking area, also with a block border to frame that abs hopefully keep the gravel inside it)
I currently seem to be spending too long looking at other peoples driveways lol 😆
