Does anyone know anything about Barlby? Is it a nice area to live?
We are wanting to move closer to York and I have seen a nice house at Barlby. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the area

My friend recently moved there and it's lovely! Very quiet, the drive to York is quick and direct, and also has buses to York.

Don't really know Barlby but Selby is pretty shit.

My DD lived there for about a year maybe 4 years ago and there’s a shop and I think a pharmacy and a secondary school but that was it. Lots of new houses have been built in the last 4 years so there maybe more facilities there now. There is a decent bus service into York and an easy drive and there’s some pretty villages around Barlby. Beware of properties that back onto the A19, it’s very noisy

There's two community groups for Barlby on Facebook. Might be worth posting on there, asking what anyone with similar circumstances (eg commute to York/same interests/similar number and age of DC if relevant) thinks?

Hi OP (and anyone in Barlby!)

My partner and I moved here in July 2022 and have enjoyed it since the move. Nice and quiet, 10 mins to train station in Selby, quick walk for us to a bus that takes you into York. Plus the drive to York or Leeds is quick.

We've got 5 day old newborn in the house now which provoked me to join Mumsnet. Did you move to Barlby in the end? Anyone else on this thread aware of any parents groups in the village?
