Due to complete in a week, expensive light bulb just conked it. I’m guessing it would be crappy of me not to replace?!

Just that really! They’re the sort of lightbulbs that are pricey (well, £12). Should I replace? Or leave it? I think it’d be a bit shitty to leave it, but spending £12 on something for someone else also feels a bit… I don’t know!

I’m probably being stingy, right?

Is there a cheaper version? What kind of bulb is it?

Tontostitis · 10/03/2022 19:59

Replace it, don't be that person

Fuuuuuckit · 10/03/2022 19:59

Stingy. Replace it.

Lightbulbbb · 10/03/2022 20:03

It’s a big globe filament / Edison bulb type thing.

Ok I thought not replacing it would be stingy of me! We’ll be completely skint after this move, which is why I’m hesitating - but karma and all that! I will get a new one Grin

It just needs to create light so any bulb that fits and works will do if you wanted to get something cheaper. Although if £12 isn't going to skint you, just get that.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 10/03/2022 20:07

Have you exchanged?

If you have and it was working then, you have to replace it, legally. They're not likely to know that you've used a cheaper one, if you do, but I'd probably just replace it like-for-like if it was £12 - I know it's not cheap, but I'd hope it'd keep karma on my side for the move!

FantasticFebruary · 10/03/2022 20:10

£12 when you're completing a sale is not a lot if money!

If you're going to be completely skint, are you doing the right thing??

I have been trying to move, but can't find anything to buy, it's a huge price leap from what I own, to anything worth moving for, so it would be stretching & I've decided that's not a good idea right now, annoying though that is!!

MaizeAmaze · 10/03/2022 20:10

Just put a standard bulb in. It doesn't need to be fancy, it does need to work.

Lightbulbbb · 10/03/2022 20:20

If you're going to be completely skint, are you doing the right thing?? I’m actually nervous about our jump in mortgage and the world situation it’s making me very, very cautious with money!

I’m a bit worried about whether or not we’re doing the right thing. But we’re buying a dream place, one we won’t be leaving, so I’m hoping will be worth tightening up spending in the short term (our DC is at nursery for the next six-months-ish, so our disposable income will increase a bit after that).

I’m guessing you’ve made at least a few thousand on your house ….yet you’re worried about replacing a light bulb 😳
Your poor buyers are probably stretching themselves to buy your house …. Yet you’d let them replace light bulbs on moving in. I find this quite shocking.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/03/2022 21:29

I thought you were talking a couple of hundred £. Not twelve quid!

I'm amazed that a sodding light bulb can cost £12. Couple of hundred? What are you talking about! Grin
Salome61 · 10/03/2022 22:54

That's nice you are replacing it. I was really fed up to move in here and find a few bulbs had gone, then the smoke alarm battery got me up in the night. I know the battery can't be helped, it was just such a pain going up and down the ladder.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 10/03/2022 22:57

I shouldn’t worry-three sodding weeks before completing our boiler decided to completely die and was unfixable. Had to part with a thousand pounds for three weeks benefit😱

Ealaigh · 12/03/2022 08:10

The last house I moved in to left about 2 working bulbs, giant holes in the walls which they didn’t fill and left the place filthy. And the boiler packed in about a week later. It was so depressing having to sort it all out. Moving again in a few weeks, dreading the same thing happening.

Twiglets1 · 12/03/2022 09:08

Very stingy

ukborn · 12/03/2022 14:37

Replace it. I replaced a dishwasher that conked out between offer and completion.

NewPapaGuinea · 12/03/2022 18:34

Just replace it with a cheaper bulb
