Finding an electrician in new area

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help? We have recently bought a do-er upper and need to find all sorts of trades. First stop is to check the electrics, but it’s a new area and we don’t have any leads.

What sort of electrician should I be finding to check the electrics of a big old house. It is likely to need a lot of work, potentially lots of rewiring so I was thinking that I shouldn’t get a one man band… in case there is a lot to do.

My architect friend suggested I ask the local church who they use but the company doesn’t appear to be in the competent electricians list! I don’t understand really but I am wary of getting the wrong people.

Anyway, if you can advise me how to search I would be mega grateful.

Otherwise if anyone lives near Brighton in East Sussex and has reliable people to recommend, I would be super grateful.

Many thanks!!!!

I’ve used check a trade and also local FB groups / you’ll usually get very good advice on local traders (and who to avoid)

And how big should the company be? In your view… where there is likely to be quite a bit of electrical work to be done…
