Police Postcode Crime Statistics

Are the crime statistics that are published for within half a mile of your selected postcode accurate?

I know it depends on the local police force reporting all crimes but I'm wondering if they may appear worse than the area actually is?

I'm buying a house and the area stats don't look great, compared to other areas in the town. But where I used to live, they were a third higher because it was near the town Center but I never felt unsafe there?

I think you have to consider these things holistically. I live on a street with a vibrant WhatsApp group that is like MI5 in terms of surveillance. A car only has to sit idling for ten minutes and there are multiple reports to the police of anti-social behaviour. Most of the time it’s an Uber driver waiting for a fare Hmm. I’ve never looked at the stats but you’d think we live in crack alley.

Haha the pros and cons of nosy neighbours! God help anyone who wanted to have an affair 😂

A pretty liberal middle class street so affairs might be ignored. Youths dropping fast food wrappers out their car windows nearly caused a street war though!

If you scroll to the bottom of the page and put in your postcode, then go to 'crime map' you can zoom in and see exactly where the crimes happened and which streets.

My area has quite a high crime rate, but there's a big supermarket with a lot of shop lifting that puts the numbers right up, i've never had any crime problems at all though since living here! If there are shops, pubs or train stations it can definitely affect the figures and make them look worse than they are :)

Yes they are accurate to exact street level on police.uk, and you can view them by month, and go back quite a long way last time I checked. It's an essential check that everyone should do on an area/road they are thinking about buying on, but nobody does!
