Anyone had a quote for garden fencing recently?

We have a big garden, the amount of work and time it's taking to sort out is becoming quite overwhelming tbh.
We need quite a lot of fencing replacing, now made even more urgent by the recent storms. We can do it ourselves but for the sake of our sanity I might get contractors to do it. Can anyone give me a rough idea of cost? For standard feather edge fencing for example. Thanks

Google local fence supplier. We have a few local ones, depending on height , including VAT, for a basics feather edge, looking between £30 - £45 per panel. Plus posts if you've not already got them .

Sorry I misread, you want price for contractor. That obviously depends on garden size, couple of men I would think around £200 each per day

TheUsualChaos · 04/03/2022 21:40

Thank you, so around £400 a day for labour?

For two people who are doing it on the books I would think that's about right. You might find some cash in hand people to do it cheaper but that'd be at your own risk re how well it gets done. The only way to find out is to get some quotes

Cost of materials has risen and panels are harder to come by, we were quoted £60 per panel minimum, so we are reinforcing the old ones and new posts.

I just paid £55 per 6’x 6’ panel for some damaged in the wind. Posts were £17 each, then you need to allow for fence clips, postcrete etc. it’ll take two men 2 days to do 10 panels properly. Labour costs will vary according to who my builder sends..this is storm damage repair though. For a whole garden run I’d ask for recommendations on the local FB pages for fencing specialists. If you are rural and not over looked, stock fencing and posts are a cheaper alternative and allows more wildlife into your garden.

20 metres of feather edge in November was £1865, south coast.

Same here.

We had 14 close board fence panels, concrete gravel boards and concrete fence posts put in last year and we paid 2250

scoobiedoobiedoo · 05/03/2022 08:01

We are getting a new fence next week as our blew down in the recent storms and we are trying to exchange on our property, including removal of our old fence it is costing £2200.

I paid £150 /day for main guy and £100 for his labourer. Can't tell you if it was 'on the books' or not. I bought the fence and other materials, he did the work. They had to remove old fence and posts, set new concrete posts in concrete and deal with roots from neighbouring trees. They were recommended through the guys doing some internal building work.
They were always on time, always polite, never heard them swear and left the place tidy as possible at the end of the day. I really lucked out - their reputation was as important to me as their price. They are now working for neighbours across the street...

£600 for purchase and installation of 7 cut to size fetheredge panels (roughly 6ft high, no posts or gravel boards required) and removal of existing fence. London.

Would be much cheaper if we did it ourselves but it’d look a dog’s dinner. Much like what’s there already.

TheUsualChaos · 07/03/2022 22:49

Thank you for replies, this is really helpful.
We're just going round in circles on deciding whether to install ourselves or suck up the extra cost and get it done but at least have rough idea what the damage would be!

@Netaporter we do need solid panel for privacy but will definitely include hedgehog holes as lucky to have several visitors to our garden 😊

Lost about 3 panels in the recent storm. Got a quote to replace the whole lot on that one side of fence, maybe 10-12 metres and a gate. £2800. Other quotes were similar.
Ended up getting the materials and just replacing the 3 panels myself.

TheUsualChaos · 08/03/2022 00:14

Ouch! £2800!
The stretch we need to do is about 12m. Sadly only a tiny fraction of what really need to do but focussing on the urgent bits for now. Should be grateful to have a big garden and I am but it's been such money pit!
