Life in Malvern

We're considering moving to Malvern so just wondered what the locals think of the area! Recommendations for nurseries, schools, doctors, dentists? Things to do? Any residential areas to avoid?

I grew up in Redmarley, then Mid Wales and have lived in Stourbridge for a decade now so craving a more rural setting. Clent and Kinver are lovely but not in our price range. We considered Ledbury but following a recent visit it doesn't seem to have much going on these days.

We work from home but the office is based in Halesowen and we may need to commute once a month for meetings.

Our hobbies include running, scenic walks, cycling, horse riding and swimming. I also really enjoy the theatre, live music, craft fairs etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I've also lived in stourbridge, near Redmarley and now near malvern. How old are DC?? There is a lovely nursery near upton upon severn, little blossoms I think it's called, not sure about primary schools but Hanley Castle high school is supposed to be excellent. In terms of hobbies plenty of riding schools, walks up malvern hills and also eastnor, and a newly refurbished swimming baths (also offers affordable kids lessons from a very young age). There is a theatre in malvern and I'm pretty sure they have farmers markets near leigh sinton that's just up the road from malvern.
Hope this helps.

Just to add, if its a NHS dentist your looking for, good luck with that anywhere I called everywhere a few months back and no one had any spaces available, but apparently this is common across all counties atm.

@xXwhenwillitendXx Oh what a coincidence! We don’t have any little ones yet but TTC for 6 months now. Malvern really seems to be ticking all the boxes for us! We were toying with moving to Brecon (family live near Cwmbran) but it’s a bit of a trek for partner’s parents to visit or commute back for meetings. We just happened to walk Malvern hills on Sunday and I don’t know why we hadn’t thought about it before!

It is beautiful, I would avoid malvern itself but look at surrounding towns and villages such as upton upon severn, callow end, leigh sinton or Hanley swan, just note these places are liable to floods so will just need to do your research.
The house prices are significantly increasing at the moment so now is the time to buy round here.
In terms of getting to Halesowen I often drive to stourbridge and it takes me an hour, will probably be the same to halesowen as you would just stay on the M5 and get off at the next junction. There are road works In worcester at the moment going from malvern to the M5 so lots of traffic at peak times, however the road works are in place for this reason, so hopefully traffic will be much improved when this is complete. Feel free to message me if you need any more advice.
