A question about a fence

I want to remove the fence at the bottom of my garden. But at one corner the post is not in line with the fence at the side of my garden. It's about 1' or less into my neighbour's side. This means that when we remove that fence panel, there will be a gap on the neighbour's side. The gap looks too small for fencing once a new post is placed at the corner of our properties. The ideal would be for him to replace his next panel with two smaller panels, in total just larger than the original panel. That way we could have the corner post at the corner. As it is, I don't know how we could fill the gap.

Any suggestions?

Can I ask why you're removing the fence?

I think that if your neighbour's going to be inconvenienced both physically and financially, I'd have the discussion before removing, perhaps offering to pay for a panel of fencing.

To replace with a hedge.

We've informed the neighbours of our intentions and arranged to meet with them before we do anything. I thought MNers might have ideas that haven't occurred to me.

could you afford to put in 2 small panels ( + a post inbetween your new fence post & his existing fence post). If you pay for his new set up, he can't much complain.

If you offer him the fence panel it can be cut down to meet the corner post. This is normal - most gardens are not exactly fence panel length or width!
