Where to get small to medium size paint pots?

peckpeckpeck · 25/02/2022 19:27

I'm looking to paint a mural on a small wall in my daughter's room, something like the attached picture.

I think I'll need more than what's in a tester pot, but a lot less than a standard 2.5L tin. Where might I get an in-between size?

Thank you!

Little greene do 250ml pots of emulsion but they are £8 so it might be cheaper to buy more tester pots or a tin a white emulsion and add tester pot colours to some

That's an interesting idea re a tin of white and mixing my own colours! I can pretend I'm in a workshop in deep Dorset, mixing away.

I like dulux trade paints and have bought them in 1L pots for projects.

Get them mixed to order at a dulux decorator centre.

I'm not sure there's one nearby but I'll take a look at a different local decorators centre and see if they colour match smaller pots. Thank you!

As other have said, go to your local trade paint place. They will mix the colour to order and the quality will be so much better.

I’ve used decorating centre online. Their tester pots are a good size much bigger than a regular tester. Catheter colour match pretty much anything

Little Greene sell pots of nice paint.

Get more tester pots?

Johnstone’s tester sizes are also a bit bigger and they colour match nearly anything’s

Valspar also does very good intermediate sizes colour matched that I used for a similar project

RedRobin100 · 26/02/2022 09:28

For info I just checked what I had. The two on right are valspar mixes/colour matches. Bigger one is 1L and was £15 I think.
Can’t remember what the tester size is but maybe Stroud 250/300ml and was £3.
One on left was Johnstone’s/Dec centre colour match/mix is 350ml ans was £4 I think

B&Q do valspar in 1 litre pots, and their sample pots are also bigger than the usual ones you get from the likes of F&B.

Some places do paint exchanges, where you can take half used paint tins, maybe there is one in your area.

Thank you everyone! Lots of great ideas to explore here 😊

Second PPs on Valspar at B&Q - their sample pots are 236ml (just checked one lurking in my DIY pile Grin).

Also, I think Dulux samples from a colour mixing machine (e.g. in Homebase, Wickes, Decorating Centre, etc.), rather than those off-the-shelf little plastic pouches, are 250ml.
