Pros and cons of encaustic (cement) tiles?

Hello!

I'm having to choose between encaustic cement tiles and normal porcelain tiles atm for our bathroom. It's about 3.5 sqm of floor space. We have two young children, but they're quite sensible with water and using the toilet Smile

I've heard bad things about encaustic tiles needing to be resealed every year, and not being very durable. But I've also got friends who have encaustic tiles and never noticed any issues.

Please could MN share its wisdom on whether I should get encaustic tiles? I'm interested in the Luna tile from Bert and May (see photo). They bring me a lot of joy vs. the alternative. Unfortunately Bert and May don't do a porcelain version of these, otherwise I'd probably just use them.

Thank you!

I bought cement tiles for my bathroom. Have porcelain in utility and wish I’d used porcelain in bathroom. My concern is how sealant will stand up to floor cleaning products.

They stain very easily

I love the aged stained look of mine but they are fairly dark. Our light/medium ones look dirty. So I wouldn’t choose the ones you you have gone for.

Thank you all - that's all I wanted to check. Porcelain it is!

Thanks @mobear ! That company you linked also does the Luna stars but not the white ones with black stars. I've decided to go for the black ones with white stars instead (porcelain). I also realised Bert & May's reviews are dreadful, which was a surprise as they're so expensive and seem very polished.

Ooh, I didn’t realise they did something even more similar! The hexagon shape is lovely too. I think you’ll definitely have an easier time with them. Bert & May’s reviews put me off too.
