Cost of connecting to mains sewerage?

House we are buying has a septic tank, but our searches show a foul water sewer running under the road/pavement just outside the front garden.

So I am hoping we can eventually bin the tank and connect to mains sewerage.

After a bit if research, I can see that there will be a connection charge (around £600-700). I will also have to hire contractors to do the digging and pipe work etc.

Has anyone done this recently who can give me a little idea on what’s involved with the process, time scales and a rough guide of costs?

Please and thank you!

I think you need to ask yourselves why there is a septic tank if it could be connected up to mains sewerage as easily as you seem to think it will be?

have you spoken to the relevant water company - I'd assume they would charge for a connection to their sewer and would want to inspect the works?

The house is over 200 years old but there is a relatively newer development somewhat close to it now.

I am just hoping to be able to hop onto the sewer that was built for the development as the survey we had done on the septic tank shows it’s very old, too small and will likely need replacing very soon.

A new septic tank system is... very expensive.
