Smeg fridge stopped working

Yesterday I wa out at work all day and the kids report that the fridge was beeping all day, it normally beeps when the door has been open too long but no other time.
I have unplugged it and plugged it back in again, this is about the level of my technical ability.
It normally makes quite a lot of noise, you can hear the motor working but it is not making any noise. The ice tray in the freezer is still frozen.
I have no idea what the temps are supposed to be and I have lost the manual.
I called a repair place but they told me they don't fix fridges anymore and not many people do.
I don't want to just give up on it it cost £££ and is about 5 years old.

Any ideas?

Have you changed the plug fuse and checked the fuse meter

It's getting electric, the light is on.

They often beep if the temp is too low or too high, does it still feel cold inside, what makes you worry its not working if the ice tray is ok, you can download manuals on the computer.

The freezer is currently at 0 and the fridge won't go below 9 degree c. It isn't making weird little whoring noises and things like it normally does although the beeping has stopped. I emptied it and cleaned it and it did beep when the door was open too long so that got to be a good sign.

No signs of any water or ice or anything there shouldn't be.

whoring noises? that made me chuckle, what brand and model is it

ditavonteesed · 17/02/2022 12:27

Ha ha I meant whiring. It's a smeg, not sure of model. I have emptied it and it is now off with all the doors open. I spoke to a repair guy a few mins ago and he said it's probably ice on the fan so to switch if off and open for a good while.

We've just had a very similar experience with our 2 year old American style fridge freezer. Luckily it's still under guarantee. Ours gradually lost temperature over a few days but all the electric buttons etc still work (so we know it's not a power question). We had the repair guy out on Monday and according to the work sheet the issue is the "invertor module" whatever that is. They've ordered the part and will fix it next week....

I would say that it's worth ringing around a few repair places. And/or checking with Smeg if they have a repair service. 5 years is nothing in the life of a decent fridge. Some companies are just arsey about fixing white goods outside of guarantee.
