Hey,

We're FTB's and have never done anything apart from paint and change flooring in council property.

What do i need to consider when replacing this gas heater?

DIY suggestions welcomed.

If its gas then a gas safe engineer would need to be involved

Could it be electric?

We're in the very early stages so don't have much official info. Not even sure if it works, theres a modern gas radiator in the same room too.

Happy to have gas engineer do the work... no other option really.

What could do we change it to?

I can recommend a very reasonably priced gas engineer if needed.

Where are you based? What would we be looking at just roughly to modernise it?

That's a gas fire. Typical for the 1960s and 70's. It might have an electric ignition but I doubt it as most were lit by turning and holding the on/off dial until the flame on the pilot light lit the incoming gas. Unless there is a boiler elsewhere there may be a back boiler behind it .

We had one of these in a bedroom of a house we bought. We got a gas safe engineer to come and take it away and cap the gas off. It was a good 14years ago now so can't remember what we paid.

The radiators won't contain gas. They'll contain water in a closed circuit that's heated by the boiler.

Sydenham. I've no idea, but if you want his number for a quote I can send it here.
