Got our draft paperwork today. Turns out the 2 lovely people who showed us around the house we are trying to buy (viewed last August!) might not have actually been the sellers at all, but her tenants!

No mention of house being letted out anywhere on the listing and definitely was never mentioned to us at all in the viewing or any interaction with the EA.

In fact, I distinctly remember the occupants telling us they were moving up north to be closer to family.... and we have also had the EA repeatedly remind us that the seller “cannot go into rental”, so we are the subject to this massive 7 person chain...

But if the seller isn’t living at the property, and actually lives 100+ miles away as stated on our paperwork.... why the chain?

I think someone somewhere has told us some porkies. Our solicitor seems on the ball so hopefully we will start to get to the bottom of it.

I mean the people who showed you round probably aren’t lying. Renting or not, they are leaving & moving somewhere else!

We’ve viewed properties that were rented. There’s no obligation to state they are tenanted in the listing, I’ve never seen that. But we were told while viewing by the agent. Obviously, you need to see proof that the tenancy is coming to a legal end at a certain date! That should be in your paperwork.

Presumably the owner needs the cash from the sale to make an onwards purchase, hence the chain 🤷🏼‍♀️ She might not live there but she is buying a new house the proceeds of the sale. Could be for any number of reasons. I rented out my house when I moved in with my partner. We then sold his house & my house at the same time & needed the proceeds of both sales to purchase our new house. It tied them into chains.

Seems kinda straight forwards to me unless the next house up the chain isnt being bought by the owner. That would be more baffling.
