Confused about exchange of contracts

There are 3 of us in the chain. Completion has been agreed for Friday but haven’t heard anything about the exchange of contracts. Is this the norm ? Haven’t moved house before.
Removal is booked and everything sorted so here’s hoping !

You need to ask your solicitor, most of the time you don't exchange and complete same day. although it's become normal during COVID because if house hold member tests positive in the time in-between then you can't move.

Definitely clarify with solicitor. We exchanged weeks before completion, but I think it’s more normal for it to be a week or two before, can be same day. It was so stressful though, took vendors solicitor 4 days to actually manage to consistently respond so that exchange could be done. I would have lost my mind if we were meant to complete at the same time.

We are ment to be completing next Friday an we haven’t exchanged yet,(nervous wait)

So have you paid your solicitor the deposit?

I exchanged the day before completion.

We exchanged a couple of weeks before completing but where possible solicitors try to exchange and complete on the same day. Definitely a reasonable question for your solicitor if it isn't clear.

You exchange contracts first which is when the agreed completion date becomes set in stone - are you sure you are completing on friday or exchanging contracts on friday? You need to know as you need to insure your new property from exchange of contracts. Check with your estate agents and solicitors first thing in the morning.
