Hi Friends , I live in coventry with my husband and daughter and want to move to High Wycombe HP13 6GR ..We like the house there and got to know there is an outstanding Grammar School in catchment too ( though everything is dependent on score of child) . Can you help me in deciding if it is good to live there ? Are the Primary Schools good ? I have lived in Coventry and used to living in quiet place . Not sure about High Wycombe? Is it too hilly ? Is it safe ? Is it worth living for at least 5-6 years ?

It’s ok, lots of nice villages around if you want rural.
Grammar schools are not the be all and end all!

That is close to the Royal Grammar, which is a boys' school. Girls would go to Wycombe High, across town. Grammar school places depend on passing the 11+.
HW is hilly!

Remember RGS is boys only! Wycombe High is the other side of town. Totteridge is OK but there are nicer areas.

I know the area very well. Totteridge and Terriers both have a reputation locally for being a bit rough but that address is very close to the main Amersham Road and is well-connected. The walk down and up Amersham Hill to High Wycombe town centre is hard work but you will be surprised at how quickly you get used to it!

Be warned that although it is very close to the Royal Grammar School this is boys only. The girls' equivalent is Wycombe High School and despite looking quite close on paper to the postcode it is NOT easily walkable. The girls' school is at the top of Marlow Hill, which is very steep. It will take an hour or more to walk door-to-door.

High Wycombe is fine, lots of lovely bits but also has some tougher areas like every town. It’s is very hilly because of its location in the Chilterns. You are near RGS which is a boys grammar, the girls will be at Wycombe High on Marlow Hill but there are school buses and plenty of normal buses. Lots of sports clubs locally if your children are sporty and plenty to do.

There’s also Beaconsfield High which is a girls grammar and John Hampden another boys grammar near Wycombe High on Marlow Hill.

Have name changed as I live in High Wycombe. Personally I like it here, but as PPs have said, it is very hilly. Probably best areas actually in the town are maybe Downley, areas around the Rye, Loudwater maybe? Excellent train service to London and Oxford, but schooling, hmm. OK if you like selective system, but we actually moved out of the area while DS went to secondary school so he could attend an ( excellent) comprehensive. Moved back though once he left... Pm me if you like.Smile

Wouldn’t advise moving to a completely selective school system, it’s not good for the majority of the population.
