Do people usually take their washing machines when they sell and move?

I inherited the seller's washing machine and it has just gasped its last breath. DH just bought a pretty expensive replacement. I was wondering if we are moving in the next few years, could we take the washing machine with us or would buyers expect it to be included? I remember there was a white goods list on what was included when I bought, and I actually thought at that time, that its normal for seller to include white goods...

I would be taking mine with me.

Thethreeofusandpooch · 15/02/2022 15:50

We are taking ours as it was blummin expensive!!

Bitofachinwag · 15/02/2022 15:50

Normal to take it with youm

PostThenGhost · 15/02/2022 15:50

I’ve never had a washing machine left for or left one for our buyers. Pretty normal to take it with you ime.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 15/02/2022 15:51

Normal to take it with you, it's actually annoying if it's left unexpectedly and you've taken your own

AlDanvers · 15/02/2022 15:51

Its normal to take it.

alltheseasons · 15/02/2022 15:51

People would normally take white goods, they're not classed as fixtures and fittings. They can be negotiated though, if it suits both parties.

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 15/02/2022 15:51

Yeh you can leave it or put a price that you’d be happy for them to pay if you did leave it.

ChittyBangs · 15/02/2022 15:52

Normal to take.
We paid our sellers for their white goods.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 15/02/2022 15:52

Unless they are integrated usually you take them with you was my understanding. But basically its up to the seller and simply must be declared on the fixture and fittings inventory/particulars what is staying and what is going.

SheWoreYellow · 15/02/2022 15:52

Can be either, but it needs to be on the original listing as ‘space for washing machine’, rather than ‘washing machine’.

hazelnutlatte · 15/02/2022 15:53

We left ours in our last house as it was integrated- it was also absolutely crap so I was glad to be rid of it! Think it's normal to take white goods unless integrated

TeddyBeans · 15/02/2022 15:53

Our sellers didn't take theirs because their new house was being sold by housing developers who had built in all the appliances but they got rid of it before we moved in because they knew we were bringing our own. It's very normal to take it with you

Jellycatrabbit · 15/02/2022 15:56

Yes take it but keep the thingy that stops the drum jiggling around in transit or it won't work when you get it to the new house

Don't ask me how I learnt that. Still cross.

gogohm · 15/02/2022 15:59

Your choice, I've sold mine with the house to save the hassle of moving them

chipsandpeas · 15/02/2022 16:03

i was left a washing machine when i bought this house and will be leaving the one in my mums house when i come to sell it

Roselilly36 · 15/02/2022 16:06

Usually integrated machines are sold with the house, but usually freestanding machines are taken when you move. This is where the fixtures & fittings form comes into its own.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 15/02/2022 16:07

Depends on house / area - when we sold our last house we were told to include all white goods in the sale. (Was quite glad because the big fridge freezer came into the house during renovations and would require door frames to be removed to get it out again).

Planetzero1 · 15/02/2022 16:12

I left mine as I was moving into rented. The buyers paid a nominal amount extra for the washing machine, dishwasher and fridge.

TenoringBehind · 15/02/2022 16:14

We’ve always taken them. Normal to do so unless integrated, I think. It would all be covered on the fixtures and fittings bit of the paperwork.

Christmas1988 · 15/02/2022 16:35

I took my washer and drier when I moved, the lady who I bought off took hers too. The buyer might ask to purchase it from you but you can always so no. Unless it’s a fitted appliance I’d take all white goods.

BlingLoving · 15/02/2022 16:50

Normal to take unless integrated. But people do often just leave them behind - with or without discussion/payment

Soffit · 15/02/2022 16:52

I would never want to leave it because it would involve cleaning it to an extent I have never even done for myself!

Popopopo · 15/02/2022 17:07

We're inheriting one with our house, but it was being rented out before so I guess the land lord doesn't need it. We're actually going to swap it for ours anyway because it looks a bit rubbish. There's usually a fixtures and fittings type form so you can advise the buyer what you plan to leave / take

user1471538283 · 15/02/2022 17:33

I've usually taken it and I think that's expected. I left the last one as we were moving into an apartment with one. But I asked the buyer if he wanted it.
