New roof, do we bite the bullet?

Ultimately we would love to do a L shape dormer hip to gable end loft conversion, but it will cost mega bucks. In theory we have the money but it would mean not being able to do most of other stuff on the house, like rewiring, new plumbing, new kitchen and bathroom etc. House roof is in serious need of extensive work, do we just do the minimum to get us watertight or do we bite the bullet and eat baked beans on toast for the next 10 years to do the rest of the stuff? My thought is if we patch and do minimum work we will have to undo it all down the line, OR we can have loft done to water tightness, and do electrics, insulation and final finish as we go? Any thoughts or anyone with experience?
