Cost to replace lock

Hello,

I have just been quoted £180 to replace a night latch Yale lock. This includes the cost of the lock. This seems a lot.. I live in London.

Can you please advise if this is the average cost to replace an old lock with a new one?

I’ve got two quotes. The second was £210

I just can’t believe it cost this much

We were £115 in an emergency for a barrel lock with 5 keys.

That is not a mad price in my experience, for a high security lock in London.
A barrel lock isn't the same unfortunately

If it's just a replacement can you not do it yourself? You could pick up a lock for about £30. There are videos on YouTube that can show you how to replace them

Thanks everyone. I will start asking for quotes from handyman and take some time to check the videos on YouTube. Depending on how complicated it is I might give it a go.. :)

Do you need the whole thing replaced, including the latch and everything? Or is the general structure fine but you just want to replace the component that the key actually operates (the "barrel"). £180 would be reasonable for replacing the whole shebang. Just replacing the barrel should be around half that but is a very quick and easy diy job.

you can buy a barrel for a yale type lock for a tenner on amazon, takes about 20 minutes to replace. You need a screwdriver and a pair of pliers.

If you are replacing a night latch like for like then it's fairly easy. Yale night latches do come in a couple of sizes and types- costs between £20-70.
Their website has all the measurements, we did the max security one and it took 10 mins.

You can't replace a barrell on a night latch- that's a different type of lock.
