Hi
If you've had plantation shutters then please can you share the cost with me?

I had 3 plantation shutters in my old house in the windows looking out onto the street that that cost around 3k in 2014/15. No bay windows just flat ones and one of the windows of the small room was MDF.
This was with a company called s:craft which were the company John Lewis contract to.

Quote today for shutters across 4 windows is 3.5k but all wood. Just want to get a sense of if this is reasonable?

I know I paid way too much last time so don't want to do that again

Thanks

Hi I'm wondering the same! London... victorian house.. just one bay window... wooden shutters please... anyone has done this? What was the price?

sarahb083 · 14/02/2022 20:10

We used ShuttersUp and it was significantly cheaper - I believe about 1k total for 3 bedroom windows, about 1.5m wide each. We got white rather than wood though. It's been about 3 years and they still look perfect.

try curtains2go or blinds2go; both are the same company.
I have not used them for shutters but I have used them for both blinds and curtains (loads of times) and they are super cheap and super reliable and good quality. Really easy company to deal with and UK based.

We recently paid about 3.5k for 2 bag windows and 3 other smallish windows

In 2019 a local firm gave me a quote of 200m2 for wooden shutters. I don't know if they've gone up after Brexit but for our large windows it was around the price you've got.

We paid £3k in 2020 for 5 regular windows + 1 (3 section) bay window, all in hardwood. We used Totally Shutters (www.totallyshutters.co.uk/) and are on the East London/Essex border.
Really pleased with them, & far less than Hillarys quoted!

We shopped around and did alot of research, they were significantly cheaper and we are very pleased with the outcome. Was great quality and service. Couldn't fault them.

Try a small local independent - ours charges about £350 for an average window.

Joxster · 16/02/2022 09:01

About 1200 for one bay and one standard sash window. Wooden composite but looks identical, south east England. Local firm. Great job.

1k for 4 cafe style wooden shutter (big sash windows)

In my old house I had wooden shutters installed on 4 windows in mid 2020, which included 2 big bays with 3 separate windows to them. The total costs was £3,700, inclusive of VAT. The bays themselves were just under £1,200 each, and the smaller straight windows about £650 each.

Your quote sounds reasonable, given the cost of materials, wood in particular, and labour have increased significantly in the last 18 months.

I used a company called Clement Browne, and would use them again, as the quality was brilliant. Also the fitter who came did a few extra jobs to make things look nice regarding window surrounds etc, which were actually away from the shutters, which he didn't have to do, and I was planning to get someone in to do, so he saved me a job. I gave him a £50 tip as a result.

This isn't my old house, but the big bay windows looked very similar to this after the shutters we're installed, gorgeous!

Local firm, £450 for roughly 5' x 4' window last year

Boozeless · 16/02/2022 21:40

We got our entire 5-bed house done in 2019 (except bathrooms) for 6.5k. Prices will no doubt have increased a lot though recently.

Confusednewmum1 · 16/02/2022 21:47

Shutterplus.com you measure and then fit yourself. I did it on my own, the frame is 4 pieces that clip together then slide the doors onto the hinge. They do a 3 for 2 offer regularly, I got this bay window done using that for £820, wood tier on tier. X
