New roof - smell of tar

Hi all, we’ve had a new roof put on the rear section of our house. There’s a strong smell of tar in one bedroom, the one with a window closest to where the new roof is. Anyone know how long this is likely to last? And also are there any safety concerns with sleeping in the room? Thanks.

Hi we had a similar issue... the smell went away in one day. For us it was a flat roof on kitchen extension that had to be redone because it was leaking. The guys replaced the fibre glass layer (that was really smelly for 24h) and then the following day put on the black thingy layer ...The smell lasted a day and a half, i would say. But I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. What kind of roof do you have?
