If you were buying, would you rather picture hooks removed and holes filed or picture hooks left?

I probably have 2 or 3 pictures hanging in each room, including the hallway. I said to DH that we should remove the hooks and fill in the holes, then the buyers can paint to match the walls or just repaint the walls entirely - whatever their plan is for the property. (They did ask me for my paint choices in case things need patching up.)

DH said they might appreciate the picture hooks left as they can put pictures on top if they don’t want to repaint right away.

Not sure what’s appropriate!

Do I remove them and fill in? Or leave them to be used again?!

I'd leave them tbh

CarrotPuff · 01/02/2022 13:12

Leave them. If they want to redecorate they will remove and fill them themselves.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 01/02/2022 13:12

leave them.

Leave them. Saves a huge amount of time when you move in- throw up some pictures in the obvious places, then position things more carefully when you redecorate.

Unless you are my mum, in which case 150 pictures is probably too many to leave....

Leave them.

I used the picture fittings my vendors left.

Absolutely leave them. The thought of moving into a house where I immediately need to paint over unsightly patches on the walls makes me want to cry.

NewBrownMouse · 01/02/2022 13:22

I was pleased that the sellers left ours as it saved me a job. Our sellers had one or two things up in each room. If you have any leftover paint to match the rooms you could leave it for them.

I'd leave them. Now I hated how our previous owners decorated and the out up pictures in the weirdest places... And don't get me started on how badly the painted the place lol.
While it would have been nice to have them filled we assumed they wouldn't be so honestly don't worry about it.
Less work for you.

if you remove them then YOU have to make good and paint the patches.

You cannot leave holes in the wall, or polyfillered patches

Oh wow ok! I don’t actually have any paint leftover. I could get samples if needed. But I think I will leave the hooks based on people’s comments!

Yes leave them. Even if not where they will eventually place items it is handy to be able to put stuff up immediately rather than leave them lying around. Invariably the hooks are in the right place anyway and as another said it is worse to come into a room that will now definitely need painting because the person before has removed stuff and filled. They can do that themselves of they choose to.
