Has anyone left the lath (as in 'and plaster') up with either glass or polypropylene over it?

Obviously we are leaving it up, but what I mean is, so that you can see it? It has so much history and looks so cool, but has anyone done it before? I'll try and attach a picture of the wall, but the light won't be brilliant, sorry!

Not here … it (messily) came down. I know what you mean though, it is pretty amazing

I have seen it done, in a house that was viewing as a potential purchase. I didn't like it. I think it looks messy and dirty. It was never intended the exposed. It is your house though so do what you like. You can cover it over easily enough if you change your mind. If it's a big area just be wary of trapping any damp in.

As previous poster days, it needs to breathe. Old-fashioned plaster would have seen to that. Even plasterboard with permeable paint/distemper would probably have done that, also. Glass/perspex etc cover will not, unless you fit the right sort and quantity of ventilation. You need expert advice - suggest you ask at nearest museum/stately home/National Trust place/heritage centre for names of recommended consultants.

We did this.. the lathe and plaster was so pretty we just fixed some Perspex over it.. it’s in the bathroom and has been there for 2 years with absolutely no problems.. I think we sealed it with a coat of PVA first.I think I have attached a picture.
