Has anybody bought any self-assembly furniture from Next?

If you have, how easy did you find it to assemble it yourself? Say compared with IKEA furniture?

I'm about to buy 5 pieces of furniture from them, and don't really fancy building it myself - but the service they offer to do it for you is charged at £30 per piece, which adds a fair amount to the cost.

We have just bought the Malvern side tables, coffee table, console tables, and display shelf. Will be putting up tomorrow so will let you know?

What is it you are buying? As we have also bought the Peyton wardrobe and chest of drawers and they assembled that for us. This was in the summer though.

I'm buying Bronx 3-drawer chests of drawers (4), a ladder chest of drawers and a mirror unit.

I think it's the drawers that are putting me off tbh, as whenever we've had anything to do with drawers it's always been complicated!

I just feel that an extra £180 on top of the cost of the furniture seems a lot, if it's easy for us to do it ourselves.

Hi,

We recently purchased a bronx dining table which my husband found quite easy to put together. He is usually useless at diy but he put the table together in no time at all.

We’ve bought a few things. Found them less complex than IKEA but that could a coincidence.

BIWI · 29/01/2022 21:20

Hmm. You see the idea of 'husband' + 'DIY' usually = D.I.V.O.R.C.E.!

We’re usually fairly competent, but getting the bastard hinges on a Next wardrobe nearly killed us.

It was fine except for those, though!

BIWI · 29/01/2022 21:29

I don't think there are any hinges!

Trouble is, the Next website is shite in terms of instructions. I'll have to go and have another look.

I don't mind paying someone else (I used Task Rabbit for some IKEA furniture) but if I can do it myself then it will be a waste of money.

Yeah I had a cabinet with drawers and it was as simple as Ikea and good instructions.

BIWI · 29/01/2022 21:43

That's encouraging. I might have a go with one set of drawers and see how I get on.

The Malvern items were fine to pit together quite simple and all fixtures all ready attached to the pieces so was literally just to screw together.

BabyInTheJungle · 30/01/2022 11:35

I did a Bronx ladder shelf thingy myself and my DSis did a Bronx ladder TV stand herself.

I found them slightly easier than some other places as the pieces were well labeled and some parts already assembled.

I am relatively experienced at building flat pack though.

What about just advertising on gumtree or Facebook for someone to help you assemble them? You'd be able to get someone for a whole day for less than £180.

We bought the bronx ladder chest and side console and also two beside tables and they were really easy.

BIWI · 30/01/2022 12:30

That's really good to hear @DaimDillyDoo and @BabyInTheJungle!

I might have a go with the first one and if I find it too difficult then I can get someone in to do it.
