Kitchen Island - Cupboards vs Drawers

Getting new kitchen plans finalised. We are having an island 200x90cm. Intending to have 2 x 60cm units with 60cm wine fridge in middle.

Would you go for deep drawers or cupboards in the island?

We will have other drawers and cupboards on opposite walls under sink/hob etc:
80cm cupboard
60cm cupboard (for bin)
80cm drawers
60cm drawers
2 x 30cm full height larders
Plus a walk in larder

Any thoughts?…

Ignore unit on its own on far right.

Don't you want seating at your island? On ours we have three stools on one side, sink in middle with cupboard underneath for cleaning stuff. Then dishwasher to left of sink and wine fridge at the other side of it.

On ours we have a cupboard under the sink for cleaning stuff and hot tap tank. Then dishwasher, pull out recycling bins and under the hob two deep pull out drawers for pots and pans.

On the other side we have three cupboards, a double width one for recipe books and pantry items and one for booze.

And seating opposite the sink. The drawers have been a god send, getting pots and pans out without moving everything around is just one of those things of underrated but now I've got it I wouldn't go back to cupboards.

Sorry yes there will be seating on right side of island. There will be a 30cm overhang on that side for knees.

Drawers all day long. They're so much more practical than cupboards. Cupboards to me are wall hung and everything under counter level is drawers. They're easier for everyone especially kids. I keep everything from plates and bowls to bread to pans in drawers.

But I'd plan out what your storage needs are and go from there. Also if you do drawers, the glass sides are a godsend, better than the rails.

I agree that drawers are best for storage. On our island we have a pan drawer under the hob and 2 sets of drawers in the island units either side of the hob. These house all our plates and bowls on one side and our cooking ingredients and spices on the other.

On the far side of the island under the overhang where the bar stools are we have shallow cupboards. These are used as additional storage for things that don't need frequent access.

We have both. 800mm wide drawers in the middle and one 400mm cupboard either side of them.
