Old Windsor

Hey

Has anyone got any advice if Old Windsor is a good place to live? We are keen on a smaller area as opposed to Windsor or Maidenhead but we are concerned about the lack of train station. Are there regular buses to Windsor? We would have cars. Schools aren't a concern.

It's about 100k cheaper than Windsor which is appealing despite the lack of trains.

Cheers

There is a bus (8/8A) that takes 20 minutes or so and runs every half hour. It's about a 45 min walk to the station when no buses. I remember you need to change trains at Slough.

It would definitely be ok if you’re looking for a smaller area. It’s basically a handful of shops with some fairly nice (mostly 60s built) houses nearby but it’s not somewhere that really has much of an identity. It’s nice and near the river but other than that there’s not much going on so you’d have to travel into Windsor (5 min drive or 25/30 min walk) if you wanted proper shops/bars/restaurants. It’s not a horrible area but it’s a bit soulless. That’s why houses are £100k+ cheaper than Windsor.

Don’t know about buses.

If you're looking between Windsor and Maidenhead I'd probably look at some of the outlying villages/towns around Maidenhead rather than Old Windsor. As @MsLumley says its nice enough but there's not much there. I'd look at Marlow, Marlow bottom, Bourne End, Pinkneys Green, Wooburn and the Cookhams. Few areas locally are quite as pricey as Windsor so you'd still get a bit more for your money.

Hapoydayz · 28/01/2022 13:15

There isn't much there so you may find yourself often heading to windsor but that is just a 5 minute drive.

Old Windsor can suffer from terrible flooding. Check old flood maps before buying

You definitely wouldn’t get more for your money in Marlow, Cookham or Pinkneys Green.

You could look at Datchet.

Thank you all.

Lots to consider! There is a small housing estate near Bray that looks reasonable also so we'll check that out too.

Appreciate the replies
