How do I find out if there are rules about what I can change in my house?

My house is approx 13 years old, part of an estate. Every house has French doors instead of a window in the main bedroom on the first floor. No balcony or anything. This means you can’t really have the window open at night so I’d like to change it something I can just open a little without worrying about a dog or DC getting out or someone getting in. We had someone to look who advised it is possible but there might be rules about what we are allowed to do, and how it has to look. How can I find these out?

I will have a look in the deeds. I would get something that looks quite similar anyway so the house doesn’t look out of place but hope to be able to open the window at night this summer as I’ll be very heavily pregnant!

you might be able to change one of the doors to tilt and turn in the same style we had one in one house you could either open it like a normal door or have it on a tilt from the top
