Colour experts - what would you put with grey?

I need to redecorate my bathroom because it's got a really cold feel about it. As you walk in, the loo is in the left corner in front of you, then sink then the tap end of the bath. Sink surround and window sill are tiled with light grey tiles, subway style. The other end of the bath has an electric shower with a glass screen. It's not a massive space but it's not tiny either. It's just right for two people.

The shower wall and the bath wall are covered in while panelling with a sparkly fleck. The window wall, the left hand wall and the bit round the door is decorated in a very pale purpley/blue. No window blinds. So it's chilly.

I saw a picture in a magazine that I really like - hopefully I've attached it. With the window wall painted a dark grey and with a grey blind with plants on. (I don't necessarily like that pattern but I like the idea. My mum has said she will make the blind.) I like the idea of a relaxing space with some plants and maybe a big framed print of some sort. And a wooden cabinet for lotions and potions etc. Perhaps a basket or two for loo roll etc.

But what I don't know is what other colour to use? If I use the dark grey throughout it'll be too dingy. Any thoughts on what other colour I could use.? Paint wheels say yellow or pink but that just takes me back to my bedroom decor in the mid eighties!!

Any suggestions?

Our bathroom is shades of stone and grey with hints of mustard yellow in the towels, plant pots and soap dispenser. I don’t think it looks especially eighties but it does break up what could otherwise be a bit monotonous.

Something like a soft blue could help it pop, not feel cold but also look fresh against green foliage. Like in this photo?

An olive green or mid-toned green would look great with a wooden cabinet and baskets.

Grey pairs with pink v well

If the room feels cold then add warm colours, such as fuschia, shades of orange, reds, pinks, yellows. Avoid cold colours - opposite side of colour wheel (some greens, blues, violets). Before decorating try accessorising with towels face cloths to get a feel for each.

Grey /neutral Greens are lovely and relaxing. Also add lots of natural wood bits to warm it all up

Pretty much anything “goes” with grey so it’s easy enough ghere

CorsicaDreaming · 28/01/2022 04:30

I think yellow and grey go v well together.

Farrow and Ball Dayroom Yellow is a lovely colour. Dulux Vanilla Sundae is a v close colour match ( or Johnstone's or Dulux will do colour matching).

I love yellow, warm and bright - but I am a child of the 80s!

bravotango · 28/01/2022 09:29

Dark green

LaBellina · 28/01/2022 09:32

I would go for sage or red.
I really love the combination of grey and red.

JamesGetIn · 28/01/2022 09:33

Plum or mustard.

SollaSollew · 28/01/2022 11:34

I know you'd said no pink but I'd go with sulking room pink, it's warm and has quite a bit of grey in it so would work well with your tiles and also go well with the green in the plants. It's not an 80s bedroom colour honestly!

Thanks all, some great ideas here. I bought some grey taster pots today and will get a selection of other colours that you've mentioned to see how I like them.

Where is that bathroom from @Titfortatfortit? It looks very similar to what I have pictured in my head for my new bathroom.

Starseeking · 30/01/2022 21:47

Thank you @Titfortatfortit! I always get confused between Victoria Plum and Victorian Plumbing and have been looking at both recently, so your recommendation is helpful. I really appreciate that!
