Failsworth in Manchester

Hello! Does anyone know this area and if so what are your thoughts? I’ve lived in South Manchester (mainly around Chorlton) for the past 8 years but it’s too expensive for me to buy anywhere in South Manchester (with the exception maybe of Wythenshawe). I was looking at Eccles/Salford for buying but it’s also becoming pretty expensive around there now too. I knew nothing about Failsworth until recently but it seems to me that you can get a lot more for your money there - I know it’s definitely not a ‘trendy’ area by any stretch of the imagination and lacks nice restaurants/shops etc but it has very good transport links into town and seems okay to walk around - a little rough to look at maybe but it feels generally okay to me. I have mentioned the area to a few people and they have raised their eyebrows but I wonder if part of this is general snobbishness against north Manchester? Any thoughts welcome ☺️

I used to live there and I generally felt safe. We were burgled once but had also had a break in when we lived in Prestwich so nowhere is totally safe I guess!

There weren't any fancy shops or restaurants but a few decent enough pubs/curry houses. And it is pretty quick/easy to get into the city centre - I got a bus in every day for work.

My friend used to live there. It was ok. Nothing special but didn’t feel awful either!

I think that’s it about Failsworth, it does the job. Went to school there, not many people in my year group left the area and have married others from school. In that sense it’s probably a bit traditional in that families have lived there for years.

Depends where in Failsworth you are looking. Like all areas it has it's good and not so good parts.
