Downstairs bathroom

Hello! Due to a leak, we may need to replace the downstairs bathroom. We recently moved to this property and are aware we needed to do the bathroom soon, just not this soon!
I have absolutely no imagination, have looked on pinterest for styles, but I can't imagine any of them in my house and am rubbish at picking tiles etc.
We have a bath rather than a shower, loo and vanity sink unit.
Looking for something that won't go out of fashion in a year and and be reasonably priced. We really don't want to spend a fortune. 2 young kids so needs to be practical.

Is anyone willing to show me their bathrooms?!

I don't have a photo of ours, but similar to this

all white, simple as possible, white tiles etc.

We're just getting ours done now and been through the same. What I did was go to the tile shops and see what type of ranges were in the price bracket and then Google image them, how we decided on ours x

This has been quite popular with builders around here. And all but one of the people I know who've had this have been so happy initially and then not many months down the line had issues. Could be the builders, of course, but seems coincidental.

That link is pretty much what we’ve done. V happy with it, except we chose white high gloss tiles for the floor which show all the dirt. Wish we’d just gone for Lino.

Metro tiles will date, but pretty much everything dates.

LambLamb · 27/01/2022 08:15

Thanks all. I am leaving towards an all white set. I love the blue ones, but think they would date too quickly. Lino is a good call as i think that can be changed easily for a quick bathroom makeover.

My husband now wants to let the room dry out and leave it so who knows if we will be doing it anyway. I can't imagine we would get it much cheaper than £5k so need to have a think.

Here's the lovely new downstairs bathroom in our previous house, which we recently sold Sad

I designed the layout myself and did all the tiling and painting. The fittings were from Victorian Plumbing:

www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/milan-l-shaped-shower-bath-1600mm-inc-hinged-screen-acrylic-panel - this bath was excellent quality, we had to go for the shorter length due to space but there's also a full size 170mm version.

www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/metro-modern-close-coupled-toilet-with-soft-close-seat - the toilet is good but the seat not so much. The soft close stopped working after a few months.

www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/ronda-white-ash-600mm-wide-wall-mounted-vanity-unit - good quality wall hung vanity unit and sink.

We used Grohe taps and shower, they are excellent quality and worth paying for. Just don't forget the adapters so they fit UK plumbing!

The tiles are Chalk Farm Smooth Matt 200x100 White Tiles from Walls and Floors - www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/flat-chalk-farm-white-matt-200x100-tiles

I used a grey grout which works really nicely with these tiles.

Hope that helps! Smile

Get something you like. I don't really think it matters if it dates, as long as you like it.
We have brick tiles (like metro ones but flat, & crackle glaze), but I love them.
Get samples - a lot of tiles seemed v different in person to the website.
Grey grout is fab as it doesn't discolour like white.
Get the best extractor you can - we went for an inline one as no window, but there's nothing worse than a mouldy bathroom ceiling!
