Looking at moving to Stoneleigh, Surrey and seen a lovely house there that ticks all the boxes. But now we're having some doubts about the area and whether it's right for us. Our main concern is that it's basically the definition of suburbia, just a sea of 1930s houses. We worry about feeling isolated with nowhere to pop out at lunchtime and we are concerned that the neighbourhood might be a bit insular as it's a place that is not on the way to anywhere, the only people who go there would be those who live there. No offence intended of course.
On the plus side we are attracted by the lovely green spaces nearby such as Nonsuch Park and the Hogsmill nature reserve. I think it could be a good area for family bike rides with our DS 2.5 as well as it is quite flat and the streets are quiet. We also like the sound of the outstanding Mead Infant School and Auriol Junior School - would be grateful if anyone could share their experiences of those schools?
I guess the main thing we want to know is what kind of people live in Stoneleigh, what kind of diversity there is in the population in terms of age, are there a lot of families in the area and will we find it easy to meet people. We are in our 40s and not looking for amazing nightlife or anything but it would be good to have a few nice pubs and cafes within walking distance.
We previously lived in Mitcham which is not very "nice" but definitely felt more "like London" if that makes sense. In a nutshell we are freaking out about moving to suburbia and looking for some reassurance and some experiences of what it feels like to live there and what the lifestyle is like.
Thanks.
