Help! Two big scratches on dining table

As the title says 🤦🏻‍♀️

In my haste of getting breakfast on the table for hungry DC I slid rather than lifted a heavy photo frame and it has left two angry horrible scratches on the wood.

Does anyone know of any miracle product or has a handy hint for either fixing or making less obvious?

Thank you!

What wood is it?

Tablescratch · 23/01/2022 14:00

The website says 'Thick Walnut Veneer'

Try first with a damp cloth, then kitchen paper with oil, then very very gently sand or wire wool then polish.

Tablescratch · 23/01/2022 14:07

Thank you. Does it have to be a particular kind of oil or polish?

You want wax filler - try that before sanding anything.

Try rubbing a walnut on it. Lots of Google hits advocating this.

OMG! This is post rubbing a walnut on to the scratch! What a brilliant hack, thank you so much.

I'll try getting some wax filler for the deeper bits of the scratch.

Thank you

Wow!

Stupid question, is this a shelled walnut? 🙈

I’ve used those wax sticks before and not been impressed but I have both shelled walnut halves and left over from Christmas ones in shells, I’m impressed with the results.

Wow, great result! Yes, shelled walnut, so use the bit you eat.

we use to use shoe polish to match colour of wood

It was just walnut pieces as I had bought some for a cake. Honestly amazed at how well it has worked!
