Buying in Westcliff/Leigh/Chalkwell

I’m looking to buy a 3-bed home somewhere around this area in Essex. A lot of helpful MN threads suggest that the nearer you are to Chalkwell and Leigh, the better, as well as aiming to be south of the London road.

Sadly, both of those criteria are so expensive and I’m buying the property in my name only so my budget won’t get me much in Leigh, unless I take 10 years to do it up.

I’ve found a property that I’ve fallen head over heels for but I’m worried it’s further away towards the dodgy end — area seemed okay to me when I viewed but I’d appreciate any thoughts anyone has on Westborough Road in Westcliff?

This won’t be a forever home, but it will be where we have our first baby so i do want to feel that I love it. Any advice gratefully welcomed!

Shoebury used to be quite private and mostly used by residents whilst southend was inundated with tourists, but not any more. Coach loads come down from London, set up massive gazebos, huge tents and have full on parties, BBQs etc. shoebury is just as busy as southend these days.

We prefer to drive to north Essex beaches.

this house is in Westcliff but it’s a much nicer and quieter part, better school and still close enough to walk to Leigh Road, the station and Chalkwell park.

@earsup Westcliff covers a fairly big area, the Chalkwell part is still very nice indeed - perhaps that’s where you went? Mostly detached houses costing from £850k to £2m,

Hi OP,
Have you considered the Nelson Road area? It's Leigh/Westcliff borders- it’s a nicer, safer area than 'true' Westcliff and right near Chalkwell Park, still walkable to Leigh.
But it’s a bit cheaper than Leigh & Chalkwell, I think in part due to school catchments, so depends how important that is to you (?)
I have a few friends who live around that area very happily.
Just seen this property added today https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/119098514 could tick your boxes, apart from parking…
Good luck!

Just found this thread. I live on Grange Road 😁 Such a small world. Absolutely love this road. PERFECT location. At the far end, it can be harder to get out as it's near other junctions, but I rarely need to drive that way. I would join Hadleigh Road (from the other section of Grange Road), or go down Glendale Gardens to get to The Broadway and beyond.

You missed a great opportunity, although I suspect it went for offers over. The queue of viewers was past my front door! YES there were problems with it and I don't know if that had been declared. It had been rented out, I know the ceiling collapsed due to a leak (I think), and it had problems out the front and had some major works done. May have been due to tree roots. But still a cracking house and location. We're within a 10 min walk to everywhere - Old Leigh, Broadway, Station, swimming pool, Leigh Road, and great walks. Highly recommended Leigh - still loving it here after 5 years 💗

Have you considered Hadleigh. Easy drive into leigh. Hadleigh country park is lovely. You can do a really nice walk from Hadleigh Castle to old leigh. It's more affordable as no train line but nice enough town centre in my opinion. Bit rougher looking than some local towns but friendly and useful shops. I don't love Eastwood highstreet but some of the residential areas are fine.
