So the pantry, I’ve been trying to draw a scaled diagram, birds eye view, front view and sort of a slanted view (gave up a bit on the scale on the last one).

I think it will still work. Sliding pocket doors in the middle of the long wall. Deeper shelves in each end behind the ‘pockets’, shallow shelves along the long wall. Counter top that matches the island worktop (although this will be £££ as so much bigger than I’d imagined!). Bigger gao from worktop to the first shelf, then smaller but regular gaps going up.
Floor as a shelf, then maybe one shelf between the floor and the counter.

Any thoughts?

@GardensandGrandDesigns - not quite the same but I'm currently running a thread because I found out that a 3x3m crittall type door will be about 27K so I feel your pain! If anyone knows of a cheaper option either in steel or slimline aluminium, let me know please so I can breathe again.
@LaBelleSausage - In a previous house when we were also exposed, I couldn't sleep either. I got a small alarm unit from Argos called a shed alarm and put it into the internal door, just so I had some peace of mind, and it worked for me! It cost about a tenner if I recall correctly.

LaBelleSausage · 29/01/2022 17:39

@NewHouseNewMe thank you, I'll look. At the moment I have the baby monitor pointed at it and a hotel room door type jam on it but it's still a bit stressful

PoshWatchShitShoes · 29/01/2022 17:45

@nomoneytree yes, but they were super expensive, even though it was supposed to be a "trade" price.

Happy to share the name of the company I wish I'd ordered from!! They did the quartz top for my master vanity unit, which is lovely. I actually bought my kitchen worktop from a different guy and regret that as he was a total knob!!

27k! Maybe 19k is a bargain??! I'm going to 2 glazing showrooms on Thu so if I see any crittal I will ask for you.

Morning all 👋

All of our furniture is being delivered from storage today!!! Belongings we haven't seen for 5.5 months. So exciting. I've forgotten what we've got 😂

SheriffCallie · 30/01/2022 11:00

@PoshWatchShitShoes, that’s exciting. Hope there are some nice surprises packed in there.

I’m still lurking, waiting on building control signing off the plans. The planning permission and building control stage has taken well over a year due to “covid related staff shortages, backlogs, etc”. We involved a local councillor at one stage, which helped. Our architect is v unimpressed and says he’s drafted a complaint, but won’t submit until we have everything signed off 😬. I doubt it will do anything, everything can be blamed on covid these days.
@AwkwardPaws27, we are doing a small infill extension too, and I’ll be delighted if quotes come in similar to yours. We are knocking down some internal walls to open out the space, and may need to add a misting system to meet fire regs which will then add about £8k to the costs 😬.
I’m in NI, so was hoping that costs would be slightly cheaper, although after reading about @HopelessOptimistism ‘s estimates of £300k, I’m a little worried 😂.

Whiffle77 · 30/01/2022 11:57

Tentatively joining as hoping to start an extension at the start of March.
We have an L shape kitchen which we are extending out to square off, and new kitchen installed. Garage to be partially converted into a utility room, potentially with a shower as well. I'm excited to get to the end but not to go through all the pain, we have a dog and a one year old which should be fun!
Enjoying everyone's pictures who are further through Smile

PoshWatchShitShoes · 30/01/2022 13:03

About a third of our stuff making the most gigantic mess of my lovely new living room....so many boxes. I'm going to be here for another 5 months unpacking 🙈

Callmejudith · 30/01/2022 13:09

@LivingInaBuildingSite your diagrams look good to me! I would look at ways to maximise the space in the corners maybe with some clever storage boxes.

I finally used my new drill and put up some hooks and did cupboard handles in the WC im delighted with myself. Also utterly gggrrr with DH. He smokes (which I detest) and is now going out the back door but leaving fucking footsteps all over the wooden floor. Also putting his disgusting Smokey clothes on my beautiful bar stools. Dick.

@PoshWatchShitShoes yes please I would be very grateful.

LimpLettice · 30/01/2022 16:05

Crikey @NewHouseNewMe that is a lot! I had my heart set on Crittall style but have gone for aluminium (6ft French doors) at considerably less than that! They are chunkier and much less authentic looking but in our budget. They should arrive end of next week I think, I'm quite excited to see them.

NewHouseNewMe · 30/01/2022 16:42

@LimpLettice - who did you get your alu French doors with? I'm reading good things about Aluco and Smart Systems so will check those out.
I'm sure it's going to look gorgeous when you've got them installed. Do share a photo!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 30/01/2022 16:57

Been at a friend's house today and their crittal internal doors are absolutely gorgeous.

LimpLettice · 30/01/2022 17:05

Climadoor, @NewHouseNewMe. Much less swanky, but that's everything here! I've just bought two clearance light fittings for the utility and dressing room for £25 each 🙄. Shoestring everywhere. I've spent more on framing some bloody playing cards and movie posters than on my lighting 😂

I shall keep posting pix. Things are moving apace but the builder says there's some delay in roof lights which won't help, and we are going to be plastered and painted long before the kitchen arrives.

NewHouseNewMe · 30/01/2022 17:13

Thanks @LimpLettice - I have just sent them an inquiry!

Aw @GardensandGrandDesigns that's good to hear. It's sometimes hard to stick with an idea when you want to make progress so hearing good outcomes is helpful!

Littlemissweepy · 30/01/2022 19:14

@LivingInaBuildingSite looks great. Love all the open shelving which is what pantry’s should be about I think, everything on display or baskets when you know what is in there so easy grab. Pocket doors are a good idea, I’m going to look into that. My architect had suggested concertina doors, I wonder if that was to preserve some depth.

Still waiting on builders quotes and bricking it - no pun intended. Will be delighted if it starts with a “2”.

When we were waiting for ours I couldn't sleep and was thinking please start with a 1. The builder we were most excited about came in at 199 🙈🤣

AwkwardPaws27 · 30/01/2022 19:55

We've picked our builder, going to call and confirm tomorrow but when I spoke to him on Friday it all looked good to start in mid-late March.

Had another play around with the DIY kitchens planner, it's coming up at around £8k inc vat for units & quartz worktops (no appliances included). I think the fitter we will probably use does Howdens, Benchmark etc - any ideas if they might be cheaper or is DIY the best value?

It seems a bit high as I keep seeing threads about doing whole kitchens for £5k but I can't see how that's possible unless they have v few units/reusing existing worktops etc?
Our current kitchen is falling apart, laminate worktop & incredibly badly fitted so no room to salvage anything!

I'm planning for an American style fridge freezer. I'm not a big fan of how they look but we need more fridge & especially freezer space than a regular 70/30 or 60/40 type, & just don't have room for a lovely integrated side-by-side pair.

AwkwardPaws27 · 30/01/2022 19:56

DH wants a range cooker but given space is a bit of an issue, I'm persuading him towards a tall unit with double oven instead...

MummyFoxy · 30/01/2022 20:17

Lurking newbie here. We are two months away from starting a single storey kitchen extension. Ripping down the old conservatory, knocking through kitchen and dining room and adding a utility room. I know it will be worth it, but I'm currently at the stage of waking up with palpitations in the middle of the night, worrying about spending circa 60k of our life savings, living without a kitchen/washing machine for weeks, fears of budget overruns etc. I know it will all be worth it, but still.... Confused Please tell me it will all be worth it!!

Callmejudith · 31/01/2022 13:26

@AwkwardPaws27 have a look at multi door fridge/freezers - so much nicer IMO than the American ones. We have this one and it's fabulous - absolutely loads of space and the freezer drawers are a game changer (the ice maker is completely shit though) fridge

@MummyFoxy it was 100% be worth it. I spent a very happy couple of hours yesterday organising the utlity room.

LimpLettice · 31/01/2022 14:29

I can't click that link @Callmejudith but I think it must be the one we are about to order, sans ice maker. I'm obsessed with the idea of the double width fridge section!

@MummyFoxy it will be. We are a few weeks from the end now, and I can see it coming together. Air fryer / microwave toaster and kettle are surprisingly useful and hopefully your builders can keep your washing machine / sink til later on. I can't lie, it is shit, but it'll be warmer when you start and nothings that bad!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 01/02/2022 13:26

Lovely kitchen design @AwkwardPaws27

PoshWatchShitShoes · 01/02/2022 13:29

Today marks week 22 of our 11-week renovation 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm currently using isoguard to protect inside of kitchen cupboards. Such a painful arduous process...and it's taking forever!!

Still living with inlaws. Everything looked finished...downstairs heating totally fucked. There are 5+ leaks around new radiators due to fucking useless plumber... the guy on the photo is hacking up my beautiful new floor. Please shoot me now 😭
