We got a Merlyn trustone shower tray in white last time. It's really difficult to keep clean as it's slightly ridged. I won't be getting anything but smooth porcelain next time.

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 27/03/2022 07:50

Anyone got/getting a mirror splash back? Decided we want a grey mirror splash back but not sure if acrylic (not near a cooker) or glass is best and where we should get it from. It will be about 2.7m long-ish.

nomoneytree · 27/03/2022 11:16

@Sluj that is a really good tip. The architect has specced 1800 x 800 trays in the kids en-suites. My husband thinks that's too big but I'm thinking it will be good for keeping the water in.

NewHouseNewMe · 28/03/2022 08:41

@nomoneytree In fairness it is large. We had a 1400mm one in a previous house and will have the same again here. It is large!

nomoneytree · 28/03/2022 13:43

Hmmmm I thinking maybe make 1200 x800 and build in a cupboard at the end.....

NewHouseNewMe · 28/03/2022 14:39

That sounds like a good option.
I saw one 1800mm width in a room where they have a his and hers shower. Not being funny but I like my showers alone these days Wink.

Has anyone got costs for patios in their quotes? Just working out what we want now we have the main structure built and we are looking at 70 square metres at the back and god knows what at the front. Before I get a quote from the builder and risk being disappointed that we can't afford it, have any of you got rough costs?

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 29/03/2022 10:31

Windows are starting to go in which is exciting. Small hiccup. The delivery driver opened his van and every pane of glass was smashed. Apparently someone else loaded the van. Hopefully won't take too long to get replacements but hoped to be mostly water tight by the weekend.

RinklyRomaine · 29/03/2022 10:53

Having the floor measured up for LVT today. Hoping the remortgage completes next week and I need to get this blasted latex covered up before I commit hare kari over the dust.

We have decided on a small deck instead as DH is good at that and I cannot face paying the builders another cent. In better news, they are out of my house. Forever, I hope.

One end of my kitchen. The other end is a massive mess, the laundry, bedroom, dressing room and en suite are bare plaster, but it's on us from here on out and I'm quite glad.

No, our builder doesn't touch gardens and I am stuggling to get someone to come and quote. Two have arranged to come and then not turned up!
RinklyRomaine · 29/03/2022 10:54

@Sewfrickinamazeballs Oh no! So frustrating. Fingers crossed the replacements are fast.

Looks amazing! You have one of my favourite prints up too.

Yay for the builders being gone!

RinklyRomaine · 29/03/2022 11:05

Thank you. That print has been in many a kitchen of mine, @Sewfrickinamazeballs. The gallery wall above the sofa is an absolute mess of styles tho so I've clearly no taste 😂

Checking in to say please please please don't just get an upstand behind the sink, get a splashback - our wall already looks bloody awful

Eeek! Did you use wipeable paint? Has that helped at all?
wonkylegs · 29/03/2022 18:01

@Sewfrickinamazeballs
Our patio is porcelain tile on a concrete pad it's been completed as part of the main works as we have the same tile inside and outside so the costs are a little hazy but for the patio which is 30m2 plus a path which is 1m x 10m

Concrete cost about £2500
Tiles cost about £800
Labour, adhesive & grout about £800
Plus about £300 for patio drainage.
Hopefully that will give you an idea

I agree actually. In a previous house, I had to add tiles after a year or so because the wall got so grubby. So I had an upstand and tiles which was slight overkill!
BlueMooMoo · 30/03/2022 08:09

@sew
We've had a quote for just the concrete part only 4x6m at 5100 inc vat.
We're going to have to get further into the build before we know whether we can afford to do it. We have kids so can't be left with something dangerous hence just quoting for a concrete base until we can afford tiles (we would also go with porcelain)

You must be so thrilled to have the builders gone and with your new kitchen!

That's seems extortionate for concrete! Is that just a square area and a straight pour?

BlueMooMoo · 30/03/2022 08:40

Includes metal grid also. It seems a fair price in our area given what friends have paid but we are hoping to maybe find a un vat registered company to help to save on costs. But it may be worth the convenience to go with the main contractors.

nomoneytree · 30/03/2022 14:18

Should I be getting the patio concrete poured at the same time as the groundworks /foundations?

BlueMooMoo · 30/03/2022 15:06

I'm not sure but if you want a flush fit between sliders/bifolds and the patio you need to know what material you want the patio finished in (the slabs/tiles) so they can correctly pour at the right height. Hopefully someone else can help. We are not doing it at the same time but the builders know the area we want as patio and the end material we want (outdoor porcelain tiles are thicker than indoor porcelain tiles)
wonkylegs · 30/03/2022 15:16

@nomoneytree they don't have to it we didn't get it done at the same time.
It was done by the same guys but they came back when we were ready for them. The concrete pad for the patio was a different height to the concrete room slab even though they have the same finished height. This is due to the different make up of the slabs ( inside has insulation, heating and screed, outside is just 90mm of concrete on hardcore)
We waited until patio drains were in.

wonkylegs · 30/03/2022 15:18

@BlueMooMoo outdoor porcelain tiles aren't always thicker than inside ones. Some are the same thickness you just have to lay them differently to the thick ones to ensure they don't crack.
