Utility in old loo

Can I pick your brains?

We have a 30s house which originally had a separate loo next to the bathroom upstairs. The loo has since moved to the bathroom, so the cupboard has my washing machine and dryer stacked inside it. It’s practical, but it looks mighty ugly.

I have some money for a few renovations and I’d like to get a carpenter in to build a unit to house both, preferably with a pull out draw between them so I can put the washing basket on it for easy emptying.

Has anyone done this and has any photos to share? It’s quite a tight spot but I’m sure there’s a way of doing it nicely… I hope!

Thanks

You can buy these off of the shelf - just google "washer dryer stacking kit with pull out shelf". I have had one of these and had a carpenter build a laundry system in a previous house. I wouldn't spend on a carpenter but don't understand how it is 'ugly' at the moment. Can you post a photo?

Surely you only go in there when you're loading the washing machine etc. How ugly can it be?

Have a look at this insta account. This lady has made a lovely transformation of her toilet turned into utility https://instagram.com/houseonntheway?utmmmedium=copy_link

Photos attached. I can’t stand far back enough to get one that “showcases” the entire mess, but you get the jist…
Was thinking if I got a unit built and shifted them both to the left I might be able to get some (very narrow) mini shelves to the right, just wide enough to store detergent? The window is there and I’ve no interest in bricking it up. Could maybe push them back a bit further and try and make better use of the space in front?
