How to get rid of old house stale and musty carpets smell…

Bought a 1970’s house and it is full of old carpets (clean but old).

There is an obvious old carpet musty/fusty smell in the house whenever you walk in.

Obviously we are to rip them all out. The house has been empty for 7 months+ with no windows open which is obviously causing the smell.

Any other tips to get rid of that smell other than windows open and remove carpet?

Hoping that will do the trick in any case!

Sprinkle bicarbonate on the carpets , leave over night and then hoover .

When you've removed all carpets and vinyl, any curtains, and painted everywhere it will be fine.

Take all the old flooring out and replace, paint all the walls and wood work

If the carpets are worth saving, then maybe get a carpet cleaning firm in to do a thorough clean.

You might want to wash down all the paintwork and launder any soft furnishings, curtains etc as well.

Ensure there is no remaining source of damp first.
