Stairgate recommendations for toddler?

We live in a flat so have never needed a stairgate but we are now moving to a house with stairs, with our 18 month old, who is currently very interested in climbing!

Can anyone recommend a good stairgate for that age? Or any tips about managing stairs abs stairgate safety for a lively 18 month old for the first time?

We probably got rid of the stairgate by about 2, so I wouldn't go crazy and would just get something simple. Is it for the top or the bottom of the stairs? For the top, you ideally need one that doesn't have a bar across the bottom (trip hazard). These tend to screw into the wall rather than use tension. Tbh, I don't remember even having one of these with our 2nd. We just didn't let him crawl around upstairs out of sight (for example, kept bedroom door shut when he was in our room in the mornings).

For the bottom, you have more options, but it actually is something you need to get in the house and measure as not all stair gates will fit all stairs. If you have wonky ones with a weird landing or a twist, you may also need something different. For our standard stairs in this house, we just got whatever was reasonably inexpensive (tension one) on Amazon. Like I said, you won't use it for too much longer at this stage, so I wouldn't go too crazy.

we've always used the lindham ones.

at the top of the stairs you may be able (depending how your stairs are) to place the bar infront of the top step rather than on top of it so there isnt a trip hazard.

Thanks. Silly question perhaps but do you need one at the bottom as well as the top?

Good point about the bar trip hazard - never thought of that! Confused

Definitely don't just want one at the top, if your toddler makes it up the stairs and the gate is locked, the only way is down....
